The EU published the new regulations for Imazalil on 25th September 2019

The new EU Regulation, 2019/1582, comes into force on the 16th April 2020 and there will NO TRANSITIONAL period where the MRL has been reduced. 

This means that from this date, residues on those crops above 0.01 mg/kg will be illegal, irrespective of when the fungicide was applied. Importers of fresh and processed products subject to this change must ensure compliance of their stocks by this date especially processed products with long storage such as dried fruit.

This Regulation will reduce the following EU MRLs to the Limit of Determination, which will prohibit post-harvest use of Imazalil on these key products being imported into the EU:

Bananas (2 to 0.01 mg/kg)
Apples (2 to 0.01 mg/kg)
Pears (2 to 0.01 mg/kg)

 Only small changes to MRLS’s to Oranges and Grapefruit currently.
