Chlorate and Perchlorate Update
MRL’s for Chlorate and Perchlorate have now been agreed and are expected to apply from June 2020.
No MRL’s will remain at 0.01mg/kg which have existed at temporary MRL’s since 2015

Organisations which use chlorine-based disinfection should ensure that they can comply with the relevant forthcoming MRLs. We would recommend that all parts of the food chain undertake some chlorate residue monitoring to reflect the presence of background chlorate in their water.
